Although mystery thrillers are quite a rage in the West, Bollywood has not been very keen on making enough movies in that genre. However, it is only lately that the remake of Yash Chopra's 1969 murder mystery 'Ittefaq', has been planned. Red Chillies Entertainment, Dharma Production and BR Films will jointly produce this remake, which will star Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha, playing Rajesh Khanna and Nan's character respectively.
Sidharth also states that the plot will undergo slight changes, as everyone knows what the original film was about, and the same storyline would not leave any mystrey to be unfolded. Secondly, the runtime of the movie will be really short, as it favours the genre. The film will not be more than two hours long, rather shorter than that and will release in the later half of 2017.
Is this any good for someone who has already seen Ittefaq a number of times?
When you compare with the original, it's a bit fast paced (or they have made it feel like it is ), little less dramatic than the original, there are more sub-plots which are contemporary, the 2 versions of the stories have been show in parallel as the cop interrogates both suspects, there is a twist in the end which you may expect in advance (also may find little hard to digest) but it's totally different than the original. Overall a decent thriller when you see it in the context of bollywood standards in this genre.
