What a fantastic romp this was! Absolutely loved it! They caught the perfect blend of epic, over-the-top human drama and action. I could easily have sat through Parts 1 and 2 back to back. Wish there was going to be a third part, though the story wrapped up nicely.
Looks impressive. Will have to rewatch the first one to get back into the story. I remember it ended on a note of shock but I can't remember the details. I totally loved it, and that was seeing it on dvd. Number 2 is definitely going to be a cinema experience.
Has anyone seen Rangoon? I thought it looked sort of interesting on the trailer I saw with Raees but it has totally tanked at the BO. This compared to Jolly LLB2 which has done well but looked to me like formulaic rubbish from the preview.
I know it's not in the realm of possibility but, in my opinion, Mahira Khan is Shahrukh Khan's perfect opposite at this point and time.. She was great in Raees, even though her role was minimal. The fact is she doesn't fade in the background in Shahrukh's presence. Somehow she makes him look even better than he already does while retaining her own on screen strong presence. I've watched all SRK's films over and over again, no female co-star, to date, has been able to shine a light of their own next to SRK. He outshines them all! He becomes the singular focus of the film, no matter who the female heroine is, everything and everybody else becomes white noise when standing next to Shahrukh! It'd be fantastic if Mahira could co-star in his next film, it could be magical Or she could prove me totally wrong It would be great to test it though.
I loved her too but I think we have to accept that it's just not going to happen. Damn politics!
Totally agree with the above. In addition, apart from the feel-good factor the Indian audience seems to require a straight-forward, recognisable hero who is either victorious at the end or who dies a noble death. Raees has neither. Fan was the same. Personally I am delighted that Shahrukh is choosing to explore these more complex roles and themes.
I feel like I'm living an out of body sort of experience..... Something I cannot explain, hell, I can't even understand it! Seven months ago I never even heard the name Shah Rukh Khan. Now, I can't go one day without watching one of his films. And to see them in theaters is pure magic for me. So new, so fresh. I can't wait for this new film
I know exactly what you're saying lina. I also need to have some contact with him every day and it's been like that for me for many years. He's like a drug. He's not in this film, is he? Or is there a cameo?
I was thinking recently about the book Zeitoun which came out not long before MNIK. It was based on a true story of a muslim man's experiences in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Perhaps it was part of the background research for MNIK and was there talk at the time that Shahrukh should be in a film of it? (or am I just remembering my imagination?) Now 7-8 years later it would be an intriguing project for him to do - though would he be able to film it in the US?
Update: I just googled the man and seems he's in jail for stalking his ex-wife, after being cleared earlier of her attempted murder. So perhaps this isn't such a good idea after all!
I would be super embarrassed if that was my father doing that with my career. Time for Papa Rosina to throw away the magic calculator. Also time for the media to stop using the words 'won' and 'beat' when describing the worth of a movie.
Lol lina I think you're cheating a bit. That's at least 30 movies in your top 10! But I understand. Surprised though that you haven't listed Don and Don2 as you obviously have a soft spot for gangsters.
sateesh You keep repeating over and over that you want him to release at Eid, etc as a solo release. You are just stating the obvious - I think everyone, including Shahrukh, would want that. How do you suggest it is achieved?
As much as I would have loved to see Raees do great at the box office, I don't think we should pin our hopes on any big number. Raees faced a Clash. Just like Bajirao Mastani, Kaabil was a pretty big movie to go up against. Yes, It won the clash, but the damage is evident. Raees isn't a family movie. The trailers are so clear about that. People are under the impression that Kaabil is a family friendly movie. Having seen both, i'd say Raees is still more family friendly than Kaabil. Had there been no clash everyone would see Raees, So you an add atleast 50 crs business to it. All said and done, I loved Raees. Raees will remain an SRK film i am proud of and was waiting so long for a film like this.
My suggestion as far as box office expectations go. Wait for a movie with universal appeal to release SOLO. When that happens. You'll see the true power of King Khan. Waiting now to see it struggle to collect 120-140 crs. will just be a depressing wait. All the while you can focus on how much people are loving SRK and say stuff like "he's back"
Maybe I'm simple, but I'm enjoying the appreciation the film is getting and it's reasonable box office. Why a 'depressing wait'? The producers knew the consequences of a clash and it's doing ok considering the circumstances. There is much to celebrate with this film. Let's be happy for a change.
