This is a triumph for Akki, his transformation from slapstick to more substance roles has been remarkable. films like Baby,Airlift,Special 26,OMG-Oh God,Jolly LLB2 have consolidated his new found position, Rustom was nothing special but he deserves a National Award for the above mentioned roles/films, they should have awarded him for one of those films not Rustom
This post is all over the place. Where do I even begin? It's obvious the only reason he won was because he's been playing up to the current government off-screen and with his movies. There is no other rational reason to award him for Rustom. They awarded him for Rustom, not those other movies, so the rest has got nothing to do with it. Even then, he was nowhere near the best actor in the country with Airlift and those either movies either (I can easily list out all the performances that were better than him). He hasn't given a single performance, at least in recent years, that can be considered the best of the country. Period.
There must be low standards for Akshay if doing any non-slapstick movie is considered remarkable and worthy of the biggest awards. If we take your line of reasoning, Salman should be up for a National Award next year (having done Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan and Tubelight coming up) and Aamir should have been more deserving (having given a much better patriotic movie Dangal and PK, 3 idiots etc before that).
Anyone defending this is out of their mind. Then Saif also deserved his national award for Hum Tum.
I would not go that far yet. Her films are more urban and haven't been that big among the masses so she's still a good distance off a Deepika or Katrina etc's popularity. In fact Shraddha was more popular among the masses (may be not now after back to back duds).
Didn't know where to post this (so apologies if it's in the wrong section) but SRK (FAN) wasn't event nominated for the Zee Cine Awards www.zeecineawards.com/vote/ Not that I mind but that is a weird omission
I haven't watched Dangal (nor do I intend to), but it is seriously doing something right - like many of F***ir's recent films - where the paying audience is clearly determining how many shows of each film would meet demand.
EDIT: Akshay is doing a few things right too.
I hope you will overcome your aversion and watch Dangal Just to understand what the guy is doing 'right' ! For one it's a well told sports film and this genre is always inspirational. It's unusual in the sense that women's wrestling is a niche sport - but the Indian medal wins in recent times at int'l events have evoked a lot of interest. There's a very earthy feel to the movie - the dialect they speak, the settings etc. and I think that too touched a chord. No giving in to 'filmi' touches that go against the grain of the film. Everyone acted well (and thankfully, the great man refrained from giving lectures). I thought it was a tad too long, but other than that, I found little else to complain about. Somewhere, AK has learnt to package his movies in a particular way. So although the stories of his films are completely different, within their scope, people know what to expect from an Aamir Khan film).
Agree with you totally about Akshay, totally. God reinvention from his awful Chandni Chowk to China days.
Not to nitpick but a lot of the themes explored in Dangal were there in Chak De India so it wasn't that unusual and there were filmi touches in the second half in regards to making the institution's coach a villain and locking Aamir's character in the room before the final (none of which happened in reality).
My mom and dad were watching a pirated version of Raees and they switched it off a third way in as they didn't like the type of film it was and role of SRK. I guess that illustrates what's been said about Raees not being for family audiences. Majority of the big grossers (including SRK's) have been feel-good and family entertainers and that is a big reason why Raees and FAN (in particular) didn't strike a big chord.
As for the Roshans I have no respect for that family at all. They are famous (or infamous) inside the industry for all sorts of things. Just watch this video where Tisca Chopra describes her experience of working with Papa Roshan (casting couch). www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHrPc-fJXSg
How can you say, she never mentioned him. People are just speculating in the comments section. It could be anyone she worked with in the 90s.
rakesh roshan and his film karobaar tick all boxes: A huge commercial director + producer (she hardly worked under much other big names), name starting with R, son an assistant director and karobaar began production in 1992 -the same time period she's referring to. That narrows it down a lot.
The only ones to blame for this fiasco are Team Kaabil. If RCE had stuck to actual numbers, media would have claimed that they lost the clash. This would have brought even more negativity towards SRK after the Dilwale debacle. RCE/Excel are doing the right thing. Fight Fire with Fire
SRK has achieved so much in his life but this clash proved once again that he will forever be an outsider ...he started from scratch and reached here without any filmy connection ...people cannot digest it and try to pull him down Not surat every chance they get.
not sure i completely agree with your second paragraph. I don't think the manipulation is specifically to do with SRK given the Roshans did so with Krrish 3 and Bang Bang too when the films weren't as big as expected.
Roshans have been inflating hugely and Excel/Red Chillies have followed suit to stay ahead of Kaabil's daily collections. All about maintaining the perception that Raees is ahead of Kaabil (which it is).
What is going with indicine.com? i thought the official and the trade figures for the opening weekend for Raees were the same. Just saw a tweet on their page saying even the opening figures by trade and producers dont match. wtf?! They gave an estimate of 21.5 crores for the first day and Raees' official figure was 20 crores.
They've clearly been biased towards Kaabil from the start.
- Two dialogues really stick out: "koi dhanda chota nahin hota aur dhande se bada koi dharam nahin hota" and "main dhanda karta hoon par dharam ka dhanda nahin karta" - Loved all the lighter moments - Nawazuddin's entry scene was hilarious; when Nawaz opens the truck to find it's empty except a cup of tea; the scene where Nawaz comes to know of the birth of Raees' son; when Raees & Aasiya playfully fight before Zaalima comes on. - The riot scene was a blast particularly where SRK smashes the opposing CM's mouth with the microphone and voices 'kaun mai ka laal' into the microphone. - The moments just before Raees kills Jairaj and Musa were epic (both men knew they had f*cked up big time) - Both times that Raees prays over his mother's grave. - Scene prior to the Saanson Ke song where Raees is frustrated and fights with Sadiq and Aasiya - Raees' reaction to finding out he involuntarily helped carry out the bombings - The scene in the van prior to Raees being shot...the sadness and inevitability of his death.
