Box Office: Badrinath Ki Dulhania collects 2.45 crore on Tuesday, inches closer to 100 Crore Club
By Joginder Tuteja, Mar 22, 2017 - 7:54 am IST
It is a matter of a couple of days before Badrinath Ki Dulhania enters the Rs. 100 Crore Club. The film is continuing to collect over 2 crore on a daily basis even in the second week, what with Rs. 2.45 crore more coming on Tuesday. The film has now clocked Rs. 96.39 crore already and the current trending would take it past the Rs. 100 crore mark by the end of the second week.
A Superhit, this Karan Johar, Shashank Khaitan, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starrer has now paved the way for third in the series which is definitely in the making now. This is the first ever franchise where the lead pair is playing different characters and then eventually ending up getting married. For a romcom musical drama, this one is indeed unique, and the only one other than Tanu Weds Manu series (which has the story of the same pair continuing) to be seeing such huge traction amongst audience.
As for the newer releases (Machine, Aa Gaya Hero) there isn’t much of traction as they are just counting their days in theaters in the very first week. The collections are extremely low. Footfalls for Trapped aren’t great either but the only solace is the cost of production as well as the fact that it has arrived on just 300 screens, and hence occupancy is better than the other newer releases.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Is Best Post Week One In 2017
Tuesday 21 March 2017 11.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania continued to be the best performing film of 2017 post the first week with collections of around 2.50 crore nett which takes its lifetime business to over 91 crore nett. The second week will go over 25 crore nett and there have been 30 odd films that have done that in the past.
The best performance has come in mass belts for the film be it a UP, CI or Rajasthan. It will beat the figures of Jolly LLB 2 in these places and could even surpass Raees and both these films had people like a Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar who are big draws in mass pockets. The business of Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Hindi) till date is as follows.
First Week - 71,77,00,000 apprx Friday - 4,00,00,000 Saturday - 5,75,00,000 Sunday - 7,25,00,000 Monday - 2,50,00,000 apprx Second Week - 19,50,00,000 apprx (4 days) TOTAL - 91,27,00,000 apprx
Box Office: Badrinath Ki Dulhania collects 7.45 crores on Day 10, set for a 100 Crore milestone this week
By Joginder Tuteja, Mar 20, 2017 - 9:03 am IST
Badrinath Ki Dulhania enjoyed a good second week for itself as it brought in Rs. 7.45 crore on Sunday. It was practically the only film in the running to find any sort of traction, what with its numbers turning out to be more than four times that of all the other Hindi films in the running. This is a clear indication of how not just the new releases have been royally ignored but also the fact that the Karan Johar production has been accepted in a big way by the audiences.
The film currently stands at Rs. 91.22 crore and that is a huge number for it to gain in 10 days flat. With practically zero competition now in the weekdays too (since one can’t expect the newer releases to see any miraculous turnaround now), the Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starrer is on a home run currently and would continue to fetch in moolah.
While the Shashank Khaitan directed film is now set to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark this week itself, it would be interesting to see if the 2 States lifetime of Rs. 102 crore is surpassed too before it steps into the third week. That film too was a Karan Johar production with Alia Bhatt in the lead and it would indeed be a moment to rejoice for all in case this frontier is crossed as well in such quick time.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Grosses Over 160 Crores At The Worldwide Box Office
BKD is currently the 4th highest grosser of 2017 after Raees, Kaabil and Jolly LLB 2
By Koimoi.com Team -March 20, 2017
Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starrer Badrinath Ki Dulhania continues to dominate in its 2nd week at the worldwide box office.
The film has grossed 127.07 crores (90.77 crores) in 10 days at the domestic market. The romantic comedy has also managed to gross 33 crores approx in the international markets.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania now stands with a global collections of 160.07 crores at the box office.
Since the new release have under-performed at the box office, BKD continues to remain the first choice for the cinegoers. The film is currently the 4th highest grosser of 2017 after Raees, Kaabil and Jolly LLB 2.
Coming to its lead cast, BKD is Alia’s 2nd highest grosser till date after 2 States (104 crores). The film has high chances to surpass its collection by its 2nd week and become Alia’s highest grosser of all time.
While Varun Dhawan is all set for his 3rd – 100 crore film with Badrinath Ki Dulhania after Dilwale (148 crores) and ABCD 2 (107 crores).
Phillauri which is releasing in the coming week, will not affect BKD’s business by a big margin since its target audience is not as big as Varun-Alia starrer.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania is produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Johar (Dharma Productions) and Apoorva Mehta.
Written and Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film also stars Aakanksha Singh, Gauahar Khan, Shweta Basu Prasad and Sahil Vaid in supporting roles.
Varun Dhawan will be next seen in David Dhawan’s Judwaa 2 along with Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu. The film is directed by David Dhawan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. It set to hit the screens on 29th September. While Alia Bhatt will be seen in Ayan Mukerji’s Dragon opposite Ranbir Kapoor, which will be produced by Karan Johar.

Badrinath Ki Dulhania Becomes Alia Bhatt’s 2nd Highest Grosser Of All Time
Badrinath Ki Dulhania has become Alia Bhatt's second highest grosser ever.
By Koimoi.com Team -March 19, 2017
2016 has turned out to be a good year for Alia Bhatt what with her 3 films – Kapoor And Sons, Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi performing quite decent at the box office.
The 24-year old actress’ journey continues in 2017, thanks to her successfully running film like Badrinath Ki Dulhania. The romantic comedy has collected 83.77 crores so far. With great reviews from critics and audiences, the film is dominating at the theaters despite of new releases in its second week.
BKD had surpassed the lifetime business of Alia’s debut venture Student of the Year (70 crores) and Kapoor And Sons 73.03 crores before.
After beating the collections of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (78 crores) over its second Saturday, the film has now grabbed the 2nd spot in Alia Bhatt’s highest grossers list.
The film’s music and crackling chemistry between the lead pair have helped the film to perform well at the box office. Badrinath Ki Dulhania is aiming for 100 crores now.
Let’s see Alia Bhatt’s highest grossing films so far:
2 States 104 crores Badrinath Ki Dulhania 73.66 crores Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania 78 crores Kapoor And Sons 73.03 crores Student Of The Year 70 crores Dear Zindagi 68 crores Udta Punjab 60 crores Shaandaar 42 crores Highway 27.25 crores.
If the film holds well in its second week, it may become Alia Bhatt’s 2nd 100 crore film after 2 States, which released in 2014.
The film is the third collaboration between Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt after Student of the Year and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Interestingly all three films are produced by Karan Johar.
Alia Bhatt will be next seen in Dragon opposite Ranbir Kapoor which will be directed Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar. And the next project after that will be Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy opposite Ranveer Singh which will be produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under their banner Excel Entertainment.
Couldn’t Have Done ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ As Well As Sanjay: SRK
Couldn't have done Munnabhai as well as Sanjay Dutt
By Koimoi.com Team -March 19, 2017
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who had turned down the titular role in “Munnabhai MBBS”, says he couldn’t have portrayed the role better than Sanjay Dutt.
“I think that every actor is destined to do certain films. I feel I couldn’t have done it as well as Sanjay Dutt did,” Shah Rukh said.
He said this at the launch of the Bone Marrow Transplant and Birthing Centre of Nanavati hospital here.
Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, “Munnabhai MBBS” was a turning point in Sanjay’s career. He played the role of a lovable goon in the film franchise.
The “Raees” actor also spoke about his meeting with colleague Aamir Khan on various occasions which sparked speculation that they are teaming up for a project.
He said: “I went to his house to wish him on his birthday. We don’t talk work. We haven’t spoken on work for years…There is nothing work wise that we have discussed.”
Shah Rukh also asserted that they used to “meet earlier too. It’s just that the media has started noticing now”.
Shah Rukh will be next seen Imtiaz Ali’s forthcoming directorial tentatively titled “The Ring”. The film will also feature Anushka Sharma, and Evelyn Sharma in lead roles.
This film will mark the third collaboration between Shah Rukh and Anushka after “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” (2008) and “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” (2012).
Recently, the actor had tweeted about working with Imtiaz, he said, “any night, just you me and my leather jacket” Imtiaz reminded us of the same on sets too.”
He plays a tour guide in the film, which supposedly has been inspired from Dev Anand’s character in “Guide”. The film is slated to release this August this year. It will be Shah Rukh’s second release of the year.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Is First SUPER HIT Film Of 2017
Sunday 19 March 2017 11.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania is the biggest Hit of 2017 and the first SUPER HIT film of 2017 as it heads for the best second weekend of the year. The film showed solid growth of around 45% on the second Saturday. The film is doing good to excellent business in all circuits and may well emerge the highest grossing film of 2017 in some circuits.
The business on the second Saturday was 5.75 crore nett which took its lifetime total to over 81 crore nett. The film will cross the business of a bigger film like Kaabil in ten days flat. Badrinath Ki Dulhania is also the biggest HIT in the careers of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt out of the 8 and 9 films that both have done respectively. The business of Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Hindi) till date is as follows.
First Week - 71,77,00,000 apprx Friday - 4,00,00,000 Saturday - 5,75,00,000 apprx Second Weekend- 11,75,00,000 TOTAL - 81,52,00,000
BKD is set to emerge the biggest HIT of 2017 till date as it recorded the highest day eight of the year with 4-4.25 crore nett coming on its second Friday which is a drop of around 65% from the first day. Jolly LLB 2 had grossed 3.75 crore nett on its second Friday. The total business of the film is over 76 crore nett in eight days which is a little below Jolly LLB 2 but the trend is stronger..
It has to just consolidate this solid trend on Friday with that big growth on second Saturday which hit films normally show and then that will ensure not only the biggest hit of 2017 but also a benchmark film for the cast (Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt). The business of Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Hindi) till date is as follows.
First Week - 72,25,00,000 apprx Second Friday - 4,00,00,000 apprx TOTAL - 76,25,00,000
The film got a helping hand from weak releases like Aa Gaya Hero, Machine and Trapped with the main competition coming from Hollywood release Beauty And The Beast but even that would be in just the metros. Badrinath Ki Dulhania is doing its best business in Delhi / UP where it has racked up a total of around 16 crore nett in just eight days and it will become the highest grossing film of 2017 in that circuit.
BKD had a good first week of 72.25 crore nett which is in the same range as Jolly LLB 2 which grossed 72.98 crore nett. The business is also in the same range as ABCD 2 (71.87 crore nett) which is the highest first week for a Varun Dhawan starrer outside the Shahrukh Khan led Dilwale. Badrinath Ki Dulhania had a good weekend but was affected by pre Holi in many circuits but made up for that post Holi over the weekdays. The film is HIT already and has all chances of becoming the biggest HIT of the year as it chases the business of Jolly LLB 2 which is the biggest HIT of the year so far. The business of Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Hindi) till date is as follows
The competition is weak this week with films like Aa Gaya Hero, Machine and Trapped so the film will still be leading the box office race but a strong hold is important if the film is really to benefit from the fact there are no high profile releases for the next 5-6 weeks.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania had its first major fall since its release as the post Holi factor dies down but the collections are still good as on a Wednesday it is doing around 50% of the first day business. The flm is very strong in places like UP, Rajasthan and CPCI. The first week is looking at business of around 72.50-73 crore nett which will be in the same range as Jolly LLB 2 which is the second highest first week grosser of 2017 after Raees. After that it will be the crucial 8th day which will tell where the film is going. The business of Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Hindi) till date is as follows.
Dangal ( Hindi ) is continuing its run at the box office into its twelfth week as it make it to 84 days in Mumbai, Ahmdebad, Pune and Noida. The film is getting a longer run than the other mega blockbusters of the past few years like PK, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Dhoom 3 as these films did not make it so far. It remains to be seen if the film can hit 100 days in any centre with Mumbai and / or Pune looking the best bets. The business of Dangal (Hindi) till date is as follows.
First Week - 1,92,38,00,000 Second Week - 1,11,56,00,000 Third Week - 44,02,00,000 Fourth Week - 14,69,00,000 Fifth Week - 8,62,00,000 Sixth Week - 1,63,50,000 Seventh Week - 97,00,000 Eight Week - 42,50,000 Ninth Week - 11,00,000 Tenth Week - 4,00,000 Eleventh Week - 3,00,000 GRAND TOTAL - 3,74,48,00,000
Badrinath Ki Dulhania held up strongly on Tuesday as the post Holi benefit remained in most of the mass circuits. The film grossed around 7.25=7.50 crore nett range on Tuesday taking its total to 61.25-61.50 crore nett in five days. The holi affect will die down now and it is the next three days which will tell where the film is going. The film is likely to see drops but with business at high levels at present the numbers still should be good as dropping of a high level. The film is getting closer to the Jolly LLB 2 numbers day by day and could go ahead of it soon depending on next three days. The business of Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Hindi) till date is as follows.
Jolly LLB 2 has grossed 107 crore nett till now and will settle at a little over 107 crore nett. The film is the second highest grosser of 2017 but well below the 128.75 crore nett of Raees and now the film will face a battle from Badrinath Ki Dulhania for second place. The distributor share for Jolly LLB 2 is aound 51.50 crore while the Overseas business is AVERAGE at a little under $5 million which is the third highest for 2017 after Raees and Kaabil. The Worldwide gross for the film will be 180 crore. The collections of Jolly LLB 2 in India till date are as follows.
First Week - 72,98,00,000 Second Week - 23,77,00,000 Third Week - 7,73,00,000 Fourth Week - 2,26,00,000 Fifth Week - 25,00,000 apprx (5 Days) TOTAL- 1,06,99,00,000 apprx
Badrinath Ki Dulhania had a strong hold on Tuesday after its big total on Monday. The film has grossed around 7 crore nett on Tuesday to takes its five day total to 61 crore nett apprx. The film still has benefit of Holi in some areas and those held up very well. The drop was around 30% in North and Central India where the collections are strong the after Holi while places like Mumbai and South dropped 50% from yesterday. At the moment the collections are not even down 50% from the first day which is very good but that post Holi factor is at play and the film will find a level over the next two days.
The highest first week of the year is Raees at 102 crore nett which is not out of reach for Badrinath Ki Dulhania but the film has crossed the first week number of a bigger film like Kaabil in just seven days and it could chase down the 72.98 crore nett first week total of Jolly LLB 2 which is the second highest of the year.
The Tuesday business ensures the film is a HIT and it may even cross the business of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania in one week flat and even if it does not it will be very close. After the failure of so many sequels like Rock On 2, Force 2, Tum Bin 2, Kahaani 2 and Commando 2 finally one goes the right way.

Badrinath Ki Dulhania Among Top Mondays Of All Time
Tuesday 14 March 2017 11.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania has recorded the 16th highest Monday of all time. It might not be very high up the chart but if looked at films above it they are all far bigger films with all of them being at least double the cost of Badrinath Ki Dulhania. It was a holiday for Holi but majority of the other films which have high Monday's were also holidays. Badrinath Ki Dulhania may be a medium budget film but what sets its apart from other films of its ilk is that it has a wider reach which enables it get a bigger benefit of a holiday than others films of its size would do as they have potential in a few cities only. Below are the top first Monday collections of all time.
At a press conference to celebrate his birthday on Tuesday morning, Aamir Khan was asked for his opinion on the 'nepotism' charge that Kangana Ranaut levelled against Karan Johar . On Karan's chat show, the 'Queen' actress stated that the filmmaker is the "flag bearer of nepotism", thus sowing the seeds for a war of words between the two.
Aamir refused to comment on the situation in particular, but offered his views on nepotism and how he deals with it while working.
The 'Dangal' actor said, "It's normal human nature to try and help people you love and care for. It doesn't have to be someone from your family. So it's a very natural emotion. In my work, I strive to not allow that feeling to interfere. I feel that it's my responsibility as a creative person towards the audience and give them the most importance. I try to not bring in any emotions of that sort in my work."
Business Talk: ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ hits the bull’s eye, consolidates Varun and Alia’s status in Bollywood
By Taran Adarsh, Mar 13, 2017 - 9:00 am IST
Yeh jo public hain yeh sab jaanti hain…’ Rajesh Khanna’s evergreen song from Manmohan Desai’s smash hit ROTI echoes in my mind as I pen this piece.
Two weeks ago, RANGOON — starring three A-list stars [Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut], helmed by a proficient storyteller [Vishal Bhardwaj], produced by a maker regarded as a Hit machine [Sajid Nadiadwala] — met its Waterloo on Day 1 itself. The dismal start at the ticket window and the disastrous opening weekend biz sealed its fate. RANGOON joins the ‘Epic Disaster Club’ that already has BESHARAM, BOMBAY VELVET, FITOOR, MOHENJO DARO and MIRZYA as members.
The new release, BADRINATH KI DULHANIA — starring two A-list stars [Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt], produced by one of the most dependable names in showbiz [Karan Johar] and directed by one-film-old director who made his directorial debut with the same producer and actor jodi [Shashank Khaitan] — fetches the third best start of 2017 at the ticket window. This, despite a section of the film industry strongly feeling it’s a wrong period to release this youth-driven film. Ab bolo!
Can we ever read the mind of the paying public? Their likes?Their dislikes? Does anyone have a formula for a Hit? Does anyone know what works? What doesn’t? Sabhi andhere mein teer maar rahe hain… The truth is, never underestimate the paying public. Also, never take them for granted. Like I keep saying, boxoffice is most unpredictable, but that’s the beauty of this business.
The opening weekend biz of BADRINATH KI DULHANIA clearly indicates that our audience loves desi entertainers. This Varun-Alia starrer is seeped in the Indian ethos… the emotions integrated in the screenplay are perfect to draw family audiences in hordes. Sure, a minuscule segment of the movie-going audience [in metros specifically] may be open to experimental films with western influences, but the majority of Indian moviegoers love, adore and relish well-told desi entertainers. It’s time our makers and Studios woke up to this fact. Let’s not forget, aakhir dil hain Hindustani.
BADRINATH KI DULHANIA was timed when the school/college examinations are on/scheduled to commence soon. Agree, it may not be the most favourable period to release a film, but there are innumerable examples of films working wonders at the BO despite incessant rains [HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUN..! is the most shining example], freezing weather conditions, onslaught of cricket matches, examination period or political activities/elections. Conversely, several talked-about films, starring established names, had failed to garner respectable figures despite the fact that their release was timed during holidays/festivals.
In any case, the release schedule is chock-a-block with multiple films every single week, right till December 2017. Why should a producer/Studio hold back the release of a film by a couple of weeks/month for an ‘open window’, that’s my point. Let’s not forget, everything boils down to how strong and power-packed the content is. A well-made film can withstand any storm if the merits are strong and of course, Lady Luck smiles on the film.
You are known by your last Friday here. The success of BADRINATH KI DULHANIA consolidates Varun and Alia’s status amongst the dependable stars in Bollywood. Labelled ‘Students’ till a few monsoons ago, they are major crowd pullers today. Varun’s movies are consistently opening in double digits, which is a huge achievement, while Alia enjoys the enviable status of having author-backed roles coming her way and movies working big time at the BO.
Now that the weekend biz of BADRINATH KI DULHANIA has brought cheer to those associated with it, I expect the film to fetch robust numbers on weekdays as well. While most theatres will be shut during the day today [Monday; Holi festivities], the business should gather momentum from evening show onwards, when cineplexes open the doors for the junta again. Additionally, the lack of a major opposition next week will help BADRINATH KI DULHANIA cement its status in the final tally.
KJo and Shashank can now start working on the third instalment in this series… starring Varun and Alia, of course!
BKD is heading for a huge Monday with business set to be similar to the first day due to it being a holiday for Holi. It is a restricted holiday but acts like a national holiday post the morning shows. Badrinath Ki Dulhania is likely to collect around 11.50-12 crore nett on Monday as per early estimates. This will take the business of the film to around 53.50 crore nett in four days which is very good. The Monday number has almost ensured the film is a HIT though the real weekdays are still to come for the film and it is the next few days that will will tell where the film is going and that 8th day hold will be crucial for a big final; number.
The very strong Monday number has also come because although the weekend numbers were good they could have been bigger as some areas did not perform how they could have had it not been pre Holi.
The early figures from North India suggest that North will come out more than the first day and this could be the case for the Central India markets. The figures from other circuits look similar to Monday or a little less. It is by far the biggest figure for a Varun Dhawan or Alia Bhatt film and is even bigger than the Monday of Dilwale which is technically the biggest Monday for a Varun Dhawan starrer though there was Shahrukh Khan in the film for the numbers.
BKD Is Biggest Varun Dhawan Opener Worldwide And Overseas

Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania has emerged the biggest opener in overseas for Varun Dhawan and is the first to cross $2 million in the first weekend for Varun Dhawan outside Dilwale. The Overseas business is set to go around to $2.50 million and Worldwide total will be close to 75 crore which is also a record for Varun Dhawan beating the 72 crore of ABCD 2.
The film has beaten the figures of established stars like Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan in both of the big western markets of US / Canada and United Kingdom. In US / Canada it is the second biggest opener of the year with around $825,000 beating Jolly LLB 2 which was in second place. In united Kingdom it has beaten Kaabil with around £200,000.
However in Gulf it is lower than Kaabil and a little less than Jolly LLB 2. Raees remains the top opener in all markets by a distance. Jolly LLB 2 had grossed $2.53 million and Kaabil was $2.37 million and Badrinath Ki Dulhania has the same range despite younger stars. The top Varun Dhawan openers in Overseas are as follows.
1. Badrinath Ki Dulhania - $2.50 million apprx 2. Dishoom - $1.97 million 3. ABCD 2 - $1.45 million 4. Badlapur $1.05 million 5. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania - $1.04 million

Badrinath Ki Dulhania had growth on Saturday as collections were up more than 20%. It is good growth from a good opening number and crucially the film managed to grow at multiplexes of Nizam / Andhra and Maharashtra as well. The film is looking in a very good position with this Saturday number of in the 14.25-14.50 crore nett range and will add good numbers over the next two days. The test will be Tuesday and even on Tuesday some places perform well the day after Holi. The second highest weekend of the year is Jolly LLB 2 at 47.59 crore nett and that may be out of the reach but it should end up with the third highest weekend of the year and then hope to hold better than Jolly LLB 2 in the long run. The business of Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Hindi) till date is as follows.
Friday - 12,00,00,000
Saturday - 14,25,00,000
TOTAL - 26,25,00,000
There are still some cities in East Punjab that are not up to the mark for a film like this as they should be much better and maybe it will be post Holi that they will come on board. The limited competition in the coming weeks gives it a chance to be the biggest hit in the careers's of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. It will be a big result for the film if it topples Jolly LLB 2.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Is Amongst The Top-3 Biggest Opening Of 2017
Varun-Alia's Badrinath Ki Dulhania becomes one of the biggest openers of 2017!

‘Desi tadka’ has worked all over again for a film in 2017. Raees was set in Gujarat, Jolly LLB 2 was set in Uttar Pradesh and now Badrinath Ki Dulhania, which has been set in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, has worked again. Audiences are clearly picking up films with Indian theme, Indian milieu and Indian emotions, something that is reflecting in the kind of footfalls that the aforementioned films have enjoyed on the Day One of their release. Clearly, the connect is much better established as the characters are familiar and are much more known to a larger population.
With 12.25 crore coming on the first day of release, the Karan Johar production is now amongst the Top-3 openers of 2017:
What makes this particularly special is the fact that both Raees [Shah Rukh Khan] and Jolly LLB 2 [Akshay Kumar] feature superstars who have been in the business for over 25 years each. On the other hand Badrinath Ki Dulhania has youngsters [Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt] who have been around for less than five years. To still manage an opening in double digit is a very good score indeed for the stars who are clearly superstars in the making.
Since the word of mouth for the film is ranging from good to very good already, the Shashank Khaitan directed film is now poised for a good and long run. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya had collected 78 crore in its lifetime run and while this number is all set to be surpassed by the second in the franchise, it has to be seen how much further does the film manage to go past this milestone.
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
Badrinath Ki Dulhania is course to being a HIT film as the film showed good growth of around 20% on its second day. The second day business will be around 14.25 crore nett which will take the film to around 26.25 crore nett for two days. The film had huge growth in East Punjab as it recovered ground from low first day number and in other places the growth was generally good though markets like Rajasthan and Gujarat which will eventually decide how far this film will go showed less growth. These markets are important as there are some markets like North which will score and others like West Bengal and Nizam / Andhra which won't and the likes of Gujarat and Rajasthan can go either way.
The film is hitting Holi period over the few days which should give good collections barring on Monday morning though the rest of the day should make up for it. If the film does well over this holiday period and then sustains it even has chances of becoming the biggest hit of 2017 as the competition it has to face in terms of releases is not very strong and this can give the film a prolonges run. The highest grossing films of Varun Dhawan (outside Dilwale) and Alia Bhatt which are ABCD 2 and 2 States both stand at around the 102-103 crore nett mark and this film can challenge those figures.
The March period may not be good for such a youth love story in terms of potential to collect but the plus is a lack of competition as far as big films go in the next few weeks which could allow the film to sustain well if it gets the appreciation.
sorry for off topic : already a HIT and that also only in just 2 days ! OMG ! WOW !
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Set For Second Best First Day Of 2017
Saturday 11 March 2017 01.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania is looking at the second best opening day of the year as the film will gross around the region of 12.25 crore nett. The highest opening of the year is Raees at 20.29 crore nett while Jolly LLB 2 is second best at 12.06 crore nett. It will be a photo finish but it could edge out the Akshay Kumar starrer which would be an achievement for this much younger cast of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. The 12 crore nett plus number is also a good start as the film is made at a much lower cost than both Raees and Jolly LLB 2. It is the third consecutive double digit start for a Varun Dhawan starrer and fourth if you count Dilwale but that was a Shahrukh Khan starrer in reality.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania has good collections all over as it has beaten Jolly LLB 2 in most circuits except Delhi city and East Punjab. It has managed to beat Jolly LLB 2 in UP where both films are based but Delhi and Punjab are lower maybe due to the fact that Akshay Kumar is a bigger star or due to the period which does not yield best results in Delhi and Punjab. The film is set to be ahead in Mumbai circuit with business being around 4 crore nett.
The film has also easily beaten Hollywood release Kong - Skull Island in the Hindi markets with collections that are three to four times higher.
Raees Inches Closer To 290 Crores At The Worldwide Box Office
By Koimoi.com Team -March 9, 2017
Shah Rukh Khan’s crime thriller Raees has inched closer to 290 crore at the worldwide box office. The film has grossed 194.60 crores (nett. 139 crores) in India and 95.20 crores in the international market.
This Rahul Dholakia directorial now stands with global collections of 289.80 crores gross. It is not possible for the film to achieve the feat of 300 crores gross worldwide at the box office, since it has almost folded from all theatres across the country.
The film, a crime thriller, also starred Mahira Khan, Zeeshan Ayyub and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in pivotal roles.
Here’s a list of movies that have over 200 crores globally, but couldn’t touch the 300 crores mark –
