My hope srk to act in the Dhoom 4 and after JSMS is the right time ,we all need a big big blockbuster.
i agree with you 101% & also this is what I have been always repeating several times since years on the forum that srk should surely do DHOOM 4 . srk needs to give us ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER very badly. thanks a lot
Toilet Ek Prem Katha has had another huge day on Tuesday with collections in the 20 crore nett region which is just a little short of its Sunday figure. At some places the collections are better than Sunday as it was a big national holiday for Independence Day. It has seen growth of around 60% at multiplexes from the previous day and single screens will be even better. The film so far in five days has a total of 82 crore nett and the week could hit 100 crore nett but that is a tough ask as now tickets at multiplexes will be down to normal The film has had another huge day in Delhi / UP with collections probably crossing 4.50 crore nett. The week will cross 20 crore nett in Delhi / UP for sure.
The film is going to cross 150 crore nett for lifetime business and the next three days will determine how far the film can actually go. There is a possibility of 175 crore or even more but the holds over the three days will determine that. The competition is not much until the release of Baadshaho on 1st September. There are films like Bareilly Ki Barfi, A Gentleman and Qaidi Band but they will not really be obstacles in front of an accepted film like Toliet Ek Prem Katha. Akshay Kumar has has a number of hits over the past 18-20 months but none have been hits across the board like this one.
Toilet Ek Prem Katha had an excellent Monday as collections came up better than the first day which is a rarity for a big release. The ticket prices at multiplexes were kept at weekend rates to make it a five day extended weekend but even if it was normal rates it is a huge hold on Monday. the film is the biggest HIT of 2017 if we count only outright Hindi films and exclude Bahubali - The Conclusion.
The film grossed 12 crore nett apprx on Monday and has a total of 62 crore nett over four days. It has crossed the business of Jab harry met Sejal in just four days and all the other major releases in July. It is a big holiday on Tuesday for Independence day and its going to be huge. The film is going to cross 90 crore nett for the week and it is Wednesday that will give a more accurate idea where the week will end. The weekend collections of Toilet Ek Prem Katha are as follows.
Friday - 11,71,00,000 Saturday - 17,00,00,000 apprx Sunday - 21,25,00,000 apprx Monday - 12,00,00,000 apprx Grand Total - 62,00,00,000
The film was worked in North India in a huge way. The collections in Delhi / UP were around 2.80 crore nett on Monday and this figure has only been done by four films on day one this year. In East Punjab it grossed 1.35 crore nett on Monday and this number has only been done by three films on day one this year.
Toilet Ek Prem Katha has emerged a BLOCKBUSTER and the first one for the Hindi film industry this year. There was Bahubali - The Conclusion this year but that film was from the Telugu film industry. Although its too early to judge the collections for Monday they will be in double digits for sure and possibly go above the first day business. North India has gone crazy for the film with Delhi / UP simply running riot on Monday. the Saturday growth in key markets suggest this but the way Delhi / UP is performing on Monday the film is going to dominate the box for sometime.
The film will also easily be the highest grosser in the career of Akshay Kumar and even can challenge his top inflation adjusted grossers but that can only be known in time. There is that big holiday to come tomorrow and on conservative estimates the film will cross 75 crore nett in five days, maybe even 80 crore nett. the prices of tickets have been kept same as the weekend as there is a holiday on Tuesday so that has helped collections a little but even without this the film would have held very just collected a crore or so less. Basically Akshay Kumar has been able to do what Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan could not and that is give a BLOCKBUSTER in 2017 and that is with a HIT (Jolly LLB 2) already behind him.
A more accurate estimate of Monday figures will be known in the evening and will be updated then.
Toilet Ek Prem Katha had a good weekend as it grossed 50 crore nett apprx over its first weekend. The opening day was on the average to decent side but the film came into its own on the weekend. The growth was a huge 45% on Saturday and it consolidated on Sunday. On Sunday the film was doing well all over, even circuits like Mysore and West Bengal crossed 1 crore nett. West Bengal was 1.01 crore nett on Sunday, a figure that could not be achieved by Jab Harry Met Sejal on any day and this is the strongest Shahrukh Khan circuit and the weakest circuit for Akshay Kumar. The weekend collections of Toilet Ek Prem Katha are as follows.
Friday - 11,71,00,000 Saturday - 17,00,00,000 apprx Sunday - 21,25,00,000 apprx Grand Total - 50,00,00,000
The trend has been excellent over the weekend and now it is down to the crucial Monday to rubber stamp the success. It is going to be Wednesday which will give a better idea where the film is going but a decent Monday number will ensure that the film is a major HIT.
This is not a negative comment. I am just asking. Can someone list current leading ladies in the industry apart from Deepika and Anushka.
Priyanka's focused on Hollywood & Kareena's not that regular anymore so that leaves Alia, Katrina Shraddha & Kangana.
hi all , I would like to see SRK working more & more with these actresses now , which according to me are at the top position & they are : ALIA BHATT , PARINEETI CHOPRA , KATRINA KAIF & SHRADDHA KAPOOR.
Jab Harry Met Sejal has come and gone with very bad results and now the industry has pinned hopes on Toilet Ek Prem Katha. Its not just Jab Harry Met Sejal but what has happened since Bahubali - The Conclusion release in late April that the industry just needs a kick start and some hope again. Also if we look at the releases this year then if hopes had to be pinned on one film it would be Toliet Ek Prem Katha. This is because it has the best theatrical trailer of the year outside Bahubali - The Conclusion so basically its the best trailer as far as outright Hindi films goes.
Obviously a trailer does not mean its job done but at least it is a film that you can have hope from. Also its not the bumper opening type film as its devoid of canvas, action and grandeur and even the music is average. But the music trailers do manage to portray a good love story which is aesthetically correct for a small town and this is where it could emerge a winner. The film does send out a message for a social cause but a large chunk of the theatre going audience today is affluent so how much the cause will relate to them remains to be seen. The advances of the film will open tomorrow and the industry will it will give some oxygen to an industry which is in ICU at the moment. The distributor shares and expected shares of recent releases are below and it makes for sad reading. Shares are the actual recoveries from the theatres,
Tubelight - 58 crore Mom - 14 crore Guest In London - 3.25 crore Jagga Jasoos - 25 crore Munna Micheal - 16.50 crore Mubarakan - 24 crore Jab Harry Met Sejal - 35 crore
The target for Toliet - Ek Prem Katha for the industry to be happy is to be the highest among all the above films and it is a possibility if the content is as good as the trailer.
Aamir Khan On Comparing His Work With Salman Khan & Shah Rukh Khan
Aamir on Wednesday began the promotion of his upcoming production Secret Superstar.
By Koimoi.com Team -August 3, 2017
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan believes the result of creative work is “unpredictable”. The actor says he’s a fan of the roles that Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan play and that he doesn’t draw comparisons to his work with theirs.
Aamir on Wednesday began the promotion of his upcoming production Secret Superstar. Present at the trailer launch of the film here, Aamir was asked if he wishes for stardom like that of Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan.
To that, he said, “I am very happy in the space that I am. I think that I have a very warm relationship with my audience and it’s something that I have built over the years. It’s something that I cherish a lot and am very grateful for.”
“There aren’t many people who can say that they have the freedom to work on something that they love. So, I am really happy, and this is the place that I want to be in.”
Aamir was asked if he thinks he is the only bankable star among the top three Khans of Bollywood, given the success of his Dangal and considering how in the recent past Shah Rukh’s films haven’t fared as well or even how Salman’s Tubelight did dim business at the box office.
He said, “Creative work is unpredictable. All of us try our best. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don’t. I don’t think because of one or two films, anyone’s stardom will be affected.”
He added, “I think Salman and Shah Rukh both are huge stars and I am a fan of their roles. I don’t really compare like this. Each one is unique and different.” Dangal had done great business in China.
Aamir said: “I would love for my films to be released in China too. I would love to do a film if there is a co-production treaty between India and China. There are so many talented actors in China, so if there is a great story out there, then why not.”
Regarding Secret Superstar, Aamir said it’s a musical film and composer Amit Trivedi has done a great job.
“Amit Trivedi is a very talented music composer. When you will listen to the songs, you will understand. This film is basically a musical and it’s a story about a girl who is very talented singer and composer. Music is a very important part of this film and I think Amit and Kausar (lyricist Kausar Munir) both have done an amazing job.”
“We are really happy with the songs we have got because they are exactly what we wanted in those situations.”
Secret Superstar” is a musical drama written and directed by Advait Chandan and produced by Aamir and his wife Kiran Rao. The film, slated to release in October, also stars Zaira Wasim and Meher Vij.
Aamir will also be seen in Thugs of Hindostan“, directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. Also featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Jackie Shroff, it will release in 2018.
Is Salman Khan Still The Biggest Star Even After Tubelight?
Thursday 27 July 2017 11.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Q. Is Salman Khan still the biggest star even after Tubelight considering Dangal with Aamir Khan has 1875 crore worldwide?
A. Worldwide it would be Aamir Khan now as long as a China release is guaranteed but in India Salman Khan is still ahead as Aamir Khan does not have many films. For the tables to turn either Aamir Khan has to up the volume and these films have to work or Salman Khan releases have to under perform.
Secret Superstar Trailer Featuring Aamir, Zaira Is Out & It’s Amazing
Trailer of Secret Superstar, produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, is out and you'll watch it more than once.
By Koimoi.com Team -August 2, 2017
Aamir Khan’s enjoying midas touch since last few years in Bollywood. Giving Bollywood its 1st 100 crore film, 1st 200 crore film, 1st 300 crore, Bollywood’s highest earning film in Dangal and what not. Trailer of Secret Superstar, produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, is out and you’ll watch it more than once.
Aamir Khan is called Mr. Perfectionist for a reason and he proves this again for nth time in this trailer. His swag is the best thing about the trailer. He is playing the role of a rockstar. He is not your usual run of the mill guy who attempts to be cool, he is cool. Zaira Wasim plays a Muslim girl who aspires to become a singer but has born in a conservative family. Her mother is on her side for her passion but father strictly hates it. Zaira has already won many hearts with her performance in Dangal. She acts mature and still manages to look innocent proving her subtlety.
Aamir interestingly will neither be playing the lead in the movie nor a cameo. It’s being billed as an extended guest appearance. Aamir Khan plays a goofy rock star in Secret Superstar, a character that will supposedly be the mentor to the character of Zaira Wasim. The film also boasts of music by Amit Trivedi.
Secret Superstar marks the directorial debut of Advait Chandan. Advait previously worked as an assistant director in films like Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd and Kiran Rao’s directorial debut Dhobi Ghat.
The film is produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao and also stars Meher Vij and Raj Arjun in supporting roles. It is set to hit the screens this Diwali (20th October).
Shah Rukh Khan feels a part of him is like a woman
ByBollywood Hungama News NetworkJul 22, 2017 - 4:44 pm IST
Love him or hate him but you can’t deny the fact that Shah Rukh Khan being hailed as ‘King Of Romance’ is absolutely justified. Having done so many love stories and romcoms, the superstar has become a pro in this genre. His signature pose of stretching his arms in slow motion has become the epitome of love for many. Even his latest film, Jab Harry Met Sejal, is a love story, which has made many fans excited. After all, it’s been a while since SRK worked in a love story.
SRK however doesn’t gloat in this regard. He in fact expresses surprise that he is adored for his romantic side so much. Talking to Bollywood Hungama exclusively, SRK said, “I think I am least strong as a romantic hero yaar. I find myself better in roles like Raees or Fan or Chak De! India. I don’t know how to describe it because I am not someone who ever thought I could be a lover. Even when I joined films, I very clearly told my friend Viveck Vaswani who was taking me around getting me to do films is ‘I don’t want to do love stories because I don’t think I can do love stories’ I thought I didn’t look like a lover, I don’t think I can say lines like a lover. Yash Chopra too cast me in Darr as a bad guy. Later on, even Adi (Aditya Chopra) had not written a love story when he cast me in his film. He was planning an action film with me. One night he came and said, ‘While writing the action film, I have thought of a love story. That’s what I want to make.’ Even then, I told him, ‘I don’t look like a lover. I am the Baazigar, Darr guy!’ But he was adamant. It was the conviction of Adi, Yash ji, Karan (Karan Johar) and Imtiaz Ali to make love stories with me. I don’t know how to be a lover. But I think there’s part of me that’s like a woman. All of us have a little Yin and Yang and I think my woman part is very strong. So somewhere without realizing it when I play a lover, it just is more sensitive. I know actors and actresses who claim, ‘How lovely this line is.’ I fail to understand the greatness in the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai dialogue, ‘Tum nahin samjhogi Anjali. Kuch kuch hota hai.’ Adi, Karan, Yash ji and Imtiaz write very well I feel. I just say it because I can feel it. I respect other people’s feeling. I think there is a big woman in me. There is a large part of me which is like a woman and I think that kind of comes to the fore and that makes me a lover and the big woman in me makes me very manly also.”
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Jab Harry Met Sejal also features Anushka Sharma. It is all set to release on August 4 this year.
Bahubali 2 - The Conclusion (Hindi) is heading towards a 100 day run as it continues to play in many big cities. Its rare for a film to hit 100 days and even if it does it soes somehow get there it is normally just one screen in either Mumbai or Pune. Here with Bahubali 2 - The Conclusion it could be around 10 screens. The twelfth saw the film i around 25 screens. The film only saw a drop in collections withe release of Tubelight. The distributor share of the film in Hindi is 251 crore and across India in all languages it is 625 crore which is 100 crore more than Dangal plus PK plus Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The weekly figures of Bahubali 2 - The Conclusion (Hindi) till date are as follows.
Pahlaj Nihalani lashes out at IIFA: “No Aamir Khan, No Akshay Kumar ...It’s such a sham!”
Producer and CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani says he has boycotted IIFA awards; adds the award show does not represent Indian cinema abroad and is just a paid holiday for Bollywood stars.
BOLLYWOOD Updated: Jul 17, 2017 13:04 IST
Subhash K Jha
Producer and CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani is not a fan of the International Indian Films Academy (IIFA) awards. In fact he says he has boycotted what he considers an “international farce” that lost its relevance when actor Amitabh Bachchan opted out of it in 2011.
He lashes out at this year’s nominations. “Look at the hypocrisy. They haven’t even nominated Aamir Khan for Dangal and Akshay Kumar for Airlift and Rustom just because they wouldn’t attend their weekend holiday plans masquerading as an awards function.”
Nihalani says many actors who were taken to New York did not even attend the awards events. “They were too tired after partying all night. What I want to know is, who is paying for this extravagance?”, asks Nihalani, and adds, “It is our foreign exchange being squandered as every top star is given tickets for his spouse, children, parents , ayahs, bodyguards, friends, friends of friends .…. I’ve heard stars are even given money to shop.Who is paying for all this? IIFA is selling Indian cinema to various countries and probably getting many financial benefits. But is the Indian government benefiting from this global event?”, he says.
Nihalani says he is dismayed to see senior individuals from Mumbai’s film industry being ridiculed at IIFA. “I think the day Mr Bachchan opted out, IIFA lost its dignity and relevance. In 18 years, how much global impact has Indian cinema made and what hand did IIFA have in this?”
Nihalani has also challenged IIFA’s claim of representing Indian cinema abroad. He says, “Initially we had cinema from various states getting token representation at the awards. Now we only have Bollywood. So why do they call themselves the International Indian films awards? It’s such a sham! Bollywood is not Indian cinema.”
Worldwide 2017 - Bahubali 2 Record With Limited Overseas
Wednesday 19 July 2017 11.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Bahubali - The Conclusion dominated the box office worldwide thanks to the huge India total and is the first film in Hindi to go over 800 crore worldwide. This is despite the film haveing a limited release Overseas in Hindi against other big releases. Raees was next best at 273 crore and this number seemed decent at the time but after six months its looking a good number as no other film has even come close to challenging it. Tubelight crawled to 207 crore which is lower than Dabangg (2010).
Badrinath Ki Dulhania was excellent though let down a little by the business in Gulf. Kaabil was poor across the world barring Gulf while Jolly LLB 2 did good to decent business everywhere. Jagga Jasoos will not even do 100 crore worldwide. Below are the top ten grossing films Worldwide in 2017 till date. (All collections for Hindi language only)
1. Bahubali: The Conclusion - 801 crore (ALL TIME RECORD)
The awards in India are a joke as the the world knows but this Iifa award is a stinker and probably the worst of the lot. Maybe as its a worldwide award so they have to drop to a lower level. There was a message going around of best film nominations and it came to our notice. Below are the best film nominations and the list itself will tell the tale of this mockery.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story
Reportedly these films come up with a worldwide voting system which is just laughable as these jokers are trying to say films like Dangal (this film does not even have competition as far as 2016 goes) and Airlift did not get votes but likes of Udta Punjab, Neerja and Pink did. Maybe some actors did not give your awards any importance (rightly so) but the idea is to give the most deserving the award whether the recipent gives any importance or not. This means you have done correct from your side.
There film industry gives many bad films but even bigger disasters are the awards and reviews as its one thing being bad but another being fake and thats what reviews and awards are. Non deserving films get awards and bad films get the stars.
Actually the critic fraternity is the worst of the lot as its out there about how bad the awards are but as critics are a part of the general film media they are not going to say how bad or stupid they are. So in this case despite being a level lower than awards in fakeness they can hide and actually comment how bad awards are when they are worse.
Why Aamir Khan Is The King Of Khans: Foreign Media
Distributors point to the fact that Aamir does one film every two years on average while Salman and Shah Rukh regularly release two a year
All India | Agence France-Presse | Updated: July 11, 2017 12:18 IST
MUMBAI : Three Indian actors sharing a surname have ruled Bollywood box offices across three decades, but the success of wrestling blockbuster Dangal means it's Aamir who's currently king of the Khans. Known as the "Khans of Bollywood", Aamir, Shah Rukh, and Salman have been the undoubted superstars of the Hindi film industry since the mid-1990s, taking it in turns to reign supreme.
But with Dangal smashing records, Salman suffering a rare flop and Shah Rukh without a major hit in four years, the crown for now is firmly placed on Aamir's head.
"The Khans used to be on a par but Aamir has moved ahead and Shah Rukh is kind of lagging behind recently," film trade analyst Ramesh Bala said of the trio who all turn 52 this year and who are not related.
Dangal has set new and previously unimaginable parameters for the box office potential of a Bollywood movie since it was first released in India in December last year.
It quickly became the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever, knocking another of Aamir's movies off the top spot, and has made close to 20 billion rupees ($310 million) worldwide.
Khan plays the role of wrestling coach Mahavir Singh Phogat who defies the odds by raising his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat to become champion wrestlers. Geeta won gold for India at the 2010 Commonwealth Games while Babita topped the podium at the 2014 edition.
Critics say the movie resonated because it was a patriotic story about a triumphant underdog that dealt with India's skewed attitude towards girls, and credit a large part of Aamir's success to his careful choosing of movies with a message.
"Aamir is one person who really puts a lot of thought and effort into selecting films that are relevant to an Indian audience. There are very few actors who really do enough of that," film distributor Akshaye Rathi told AFP.
Audiences lapped up Aamir's 2014 satirical science fiction comedy PK, number two on the all-time Bollywood grossing list, for its questioning of religious superstitions.
His 2009 hit 3 Idiots appealed for its coming of age tale about students struggling to deal with the pressure of becoming engineers.
- 'Genius' -
Mr Rathi also points to the fact that Aamir does one film every two years on average, while Salman and Shah Rukh regularly release two a year.
"Aamir has been very consistent for a very long time. He doesn't do as many films as Shah Rukh or Salman and the more films you do the higher the chance that one misses," Mr Rathi explained.
Salman's annual Eid holiday release is usually a blockbuster shoo-in, but the latest, Tubelight bombed.
Critics panned the script and said the star's portrayal of a "village idiot" failed to resonate with his largely young Indian male fan base.
Mr Bala blames Shah Rukh's failure to register a hit since Chennai Express in 2013 on "experimenting with different genres", including romance, action and drama.
Aamir is lauded for taking on challenging roles. For Dangal he gained and then lost again 25 kilograms (55 pounds) in weight while cinemagoers adored his portrayal of a humanoid alien stranded on Earth in PK.
"As a star he doesn't enjoy so much of a fan following as he enjoys the trust of the audience for his craft. People believe at the back of their minds that if Aamir appears in a film there will be something, different, something novel in it," said Mr Rathi.
Dangal has made around $180 million more than PK in global sales thanks to a record-breaking run in the hugely profitable Chinese market, where Aamir has worked hard at building his brand, becoming the biggest Indian star there.
"Aamir has time and again proven his marketing genius and his genius when it comes to choosing the right script, delivering a terrific performance and enthralling the audience," said Mr Rathi.
Who Will Pay Distributors For Tubelight’s Losses? Salman Khan Steps Up For The Duty!
In the past, we have seen how Shah Rukh Khan too paid his distributors for the losses of films like Dilwale, Paheli and even Asoka.
By Koimoi.com Team -July 11, 2017
It came as a shock as to why Salman Khan starrer Tubelight failed so miserably at the box office. The film directed by Kabir Khan turned out to be an out and out emotional affair that was rejected by the audiences and critics.
Tubelight till now has collected approximately 120 crores at the domestic box office, which is quite low for a Salman Khan film. Naturally, such a poor performance has affected the distributors as they have suffered from huge losses.
Apparently, Salman has now taken a decision that he will pay the distributors for their losses. According to reports, the Sultan star has agreed to pay 55 crores. This is certainly a great gesture from the star who himself must have been disappointed with the film. Despite of Eid being a lucky slot for Salman, this time the audience chose content over stardom and hence it did not take home the big bucks.
Tubelight is set amidst the backdrop of the 1962 Indo-China War. It is adapted from American film Little Boy. It chronicles an emotional journey of Laxman who is in search of his brother post the war ends.
In the past, we have seen how Shah Rukh Khan too paid his distributors for the losses of films like Dilwale, Paheli and even Asoka. He nearly paid upto 50% for the losses of Dilwale and the gesture was lauded by everyone.
While 2017 certainly did not start for Salman in a big way, we believe he will make up for this in Christmas with Tiger Zinda Hai. The film which is currently being shot in Morocco also stars Katrina Kaif. The film is a sequel to 2012’s Ek Tha Tiger which made a collection of 198 crores at the box office and looks like the sequel will certainly go past it.
Biggest Disappointment Of 2017 – Tubelight Merely Earns 1 Cr In 4 Days | 3rd Week Box Office Collections
Tubelight currently stands with a global total of 223.24 crores.
By Koimoi.com Team -July 11, 2017
Salman Khan’s Tubelight has turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of 2017. The distributors of the film have faced huge losses with this film. In its 3rd week (4 days), the emotional drama collected merely 1 crore and now stands with a grand total of 121 crores at the box office.
The film will wrap its business under 125 crore at the domestic market. Tubelight is currently the 4th highest grosser of 2017 after Baahubali 2, SRK’s Raees and Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil.
Coming to its overseas box office, the film has grossed 50 crores approximately till now. Tubelight currently stands with a global total of 223.24 crores.
Directed by Kabir Khan, Tubelight is set amidst the backdrop of the 1962 Indo-China War. It is adapted from American film Little Boy. Tubelight was supposed to have a big release in China too but post its India release, there has been no confirmation about the same.
Produced under the banner of Salman Khan Films, Tubelight also features Salman Khan’s brother Sohail Khan, Chinese actress Zhu Zhu, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Yashpal Sharma, late actor Om Puri and Matin Rey Tangu in key roles. Shah Rukh Khan has done a cameo in the film and can be seen in the avatar of a magician.
On the work front, Salman will next be seen in Ali Abbas Zafar’s Tiger Zinda Haialongside Katrina Kaif. The film, which is a sequel to his 2012 film Ek Tha Tiger, is slated to hit theatres on 22nd December this year. The actor will also be seen in Remo D’Souza’s yet untitled dance film, where he’ll portray the character of an ageing dancer. Post that he will start on a sequel to his 2014 movie Kick.
It’s final. Prabhu Dheva will direct the third instalment of the Salman Khan’s loopy lawmaker Chulbul Pandey’s wacky exploits. The decision to not let Arbaaz Khan direct Dabangg 3 was taken by Arbaaz himself.
Says a source close to Salman, “Arbaaz wiped his hands off the franchise after directing the second instalment. In fact he was not supposed to direct the second Dabangg film either. Arbaaz came on board only after there was a fall-out with the original director Abhinav Kashyap.”
Salman Khan has now asked his old friend Prabhudheva to step in as the director of Dabangg 3. Prabhu Dheva fits the Dabangg bill on several counts. Salman and Prabhu go back a long way. In 2008, Prabhu directed Salman’s comeback film Wanted after a spate of flops.
Also, Prabhu Dheva understands the zany mood of Dabangg better than any director. Says Prabhu, “I will do any film that Salman Sir asks me to. Nobody says no to him.”
'Tubelight' worldwide box-office collection Day 10: Salman Khan starrer amasses Rs 200 crore in ten days
TNN | Updated: Jul 6, 2017, 10.56 AM IST
It's celebration time for Kabir Khan and crew as ' Tubelight ' has officially entered the 200-crore club at the worldwide box-office. According to a report on Boxofficeindia.com, the Salman Khan starrer raked in Rs 152 crore gross in India and an estimated Rs 48 crore overseas.
The worldwide business of 'Tubelight' is in the same range as films like 'Airlift' (2016), 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' (2012), 'Rustom' (2016) and 'Singham Returns' (2014). With so much buzz before the release of the film, trade moguls expected a bigger collection followed by a steady graph, however, 'Tubelight' is one of the few Salman Khan films that failed to break box-office records set in the recent past.
However, the Kabir Khan directorial still managed to take the second spot in the highest opening day collections of the year 2017. At a little under the 21-crore mark, the film stands behind SS Rajamouli's magnum opus 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion'.
The film is an official remake of the Hollywood film 'Little Boy' and is set against the backdrop of the 1962 Sino-Indian War. It also features late Bollywood legend, Om Puri, Chinese actress Zhu Zhu and child artist Martin Rey Tangu in pivotal roles.
All Time Advance Booking Records - Tubelight Ninth
Friday 23 June 2017 11.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Tubelight had the ninth highest advance of all time in terms of the money collected at the box office before release. Earlier advance was calculated as the percentage number of tickets sold against the total availabe but this is reduntant as even the biggest films are unable to reach 20%.
Overall its a good advance but not a great one. It is ninth place in terms of collections pre release but in terms of tickets sold it is lower than Raees at number ten and lower than other films like PK, Chennai Express and Ek Tha Tiger. This is beacuse it has a higher ATP (Average Ticket Price) as tickets rates are the highest of all time at major multiplex chains and that is where the best advance is.
Below are the top ten advances of all time. This is the apprx collections pre release (end of business Thursday).
Tubelight has taken the second highest opening day of the year at a little under 21 crore nett but the collections are almost 50% less than Bahubali - The Conclusion. It has edged past Raees but that film released on 3400 screens compared to 4400 of Tubelight. The real value is around 25 crore nett as East Punjab is 2.78 crore which has no pre Eid affect. This means the film has lost around 4 crore nett on day one.
The film has under performed in West Bengal, Gujarat and South. This could be as these areas have a huge muslim audience but places like Nizam / Andhra and Gujarat could also be beacause they are mass circuits and with promos not having the action and songs a chunk of the audience finds the film less interesting. Bahubali 2 (Hindi) Is Mission Impossible For Others
Wednesday 21 June 2017 12.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Bahubali - The Conclusion is coming to the end of its run and it will be a 508 crore nett (705 GROSS) finish and it has probably stopped the trend where all time records are broken every few years. This is because films like PK and Dangal were doing phenomenally well but they were not those great ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTERS which got 5 crore people to the theatres like a Sholay, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun or Gadar which led to these films holding records for years. There will be so many huge films in the next 2-3 years that will be expected to challenge Bahubali - The Conclusion but the sort of cinema being made by our industry means Bahubali - The Conclusion is a safe bet until the ticket rates get high enough for a 525 crore nett figure to come with 3.5-4 crore footfalls. The new GST tax may help a little if that is the only tax but then the comparison becomes GROSS as the box office dynamics have changed and 700 crore GROSS won't be there.
There will be talk about if the content is great then the records will be smashed but its not exactly about CONTENT here but CONVICTION. There is a type of storytelling which delivers huge numbers which we have seen with Dangal or Bajrangi Bhaijaan and then you add the formula cinema with melodrama which Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Dangal have but subtly. A Bahubali - The Conclusion celebrates this cinema unabashedly without subtly and thats the difference. The content of Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Dangal cannot be faulted in any. Bahubali 2 is basically on the lines of a Suraj (1966) or a Dharam Veer (1977) and many others where a prince goes to a neighboring area and falls in love with a princess who is loved by a joker prince. The prince proves to be the hero and wins the girl and brings her back but his family members have stirred up trouble and he looses his crown which he has to get back. Its a simple story done many times in the history of our cinema.
This sort of cinema today needs conviction more than at any other time as there is a very fine line of it falling flat on its face and being ridiculed or becoming Bahubali - The Conclusion and the fact is that no filmmaker in the Hindi film industry will have this conviction as won't believe in this cinema, and if you don't believe in it then you can't make the audience believe. The great filmmakers of Hindi cinema like Mehboob Khan, Raj Kapoor, Raj Khosla, Manmohan Desai and Manoj Kumar had this conviction and that is why they had such huge blockbusters similar to Bahubali 2 - The Conclusion. These guys must have around 10-12 films between doing 4-5 crore footfalls or even more. There were no other forms to watch films then like television or video but this is equaled up by the fact that the population has doubled since then.
At the time these legends made films it was an audience and today this audience has become single screen audience, multiplex audience, big city audience, small city audience, evolved audience, leave your brains behind audience and what not. When an audience is divided in such a way where will the conviction come as everybody may say they stay true to the script but the fact that this audience may not accept that or that audience may not accept this is there no matter what anyone says. When the thinking is that the audience is one these things become secondary. This is actually what Bahubali - The Conclusion proves that its still just an audience and a good film will work with all. In fact not just Bahubali - The Conclusion but any blockbuster proves this but at varying levels. The level of Bahubali - The Conclusion will only come if makers believe in this type of cinema, the audience does as can be seen in the results but its pretty certain that no big Hindi film director will green light a story like Bahubali - The Conclusion.
There will be people in our industry that will see the grandeur and scale of the film as the reason for its huge success and if one attempts to replicate on this belief it will lead to disaster as in our cinema the story and the way its told holds much more importance. Simply put the Bahubali - The Conclusion numbers are here to stay for a long time, in time its 508 crore nett will be crossed but those 5.25 crore footfalls is another mission altogether.
Although its a long shot, the hope is that one of our Hindi filmmakers pulls in over 5 crore people into the theatres and gives that historic blockbuster as this will change Hindi cinema for sure and for the better. At the moment, the industry sees S.S. Rajamouli at another level and playing in a different league in a different industry so it does not change much but when one of your own guy goes and does the unthinkable then the picture does changes as others believe we can also achieve that. .

Can Tubelight Beat These Films To Become Salman Khan’s Highest Opener?
Here's a look at the list of highest opening day collections of Salman Khan's films!
By Koimoi.com Team -June 19, 2017
Salman Khan is all set to rock the box office charts once again, from his Friday as his much-awaited film, Tubelight hits the theatres on 23rd of June.
Though Tubelight is releasing on a regular Friday, due the extraordinary buzz around the film and the huge fan following of Salman Khan, one can definitely expect an opening of around 30 crores from it. Looking at his previous records, the actor’s last release, Sultan which had hit the theatres during Eid (a Public holiday) last year collected 36.54 crores on its 1st day.
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which released in 2015 over the festive time of Diwali remains to be his highest opening day grosser. The film collected 40.35 crores on its first day itself. It was a family drama and hence collected such a huge sum.
Tubelight Will Have To Beat These Films To Become Salman Khan’s Highest Opener!
Here’s a look at the list of highest opening day collections of Salman Khan’s films:
Directed by Kabir Khan, Salman’s next, Tubelight is all set to hit the theaters on 23rd June. The period drama also stars Sohail Khan, Chinese actress Zhu Zhu and late actor Om Puri in key roles.
The film revolves around Laxman (Salman) who is a little slow and is known as Tubelight. After his brother goes missing during the Indo-Sino war, he is forced to introspect and truly believe that he has the power to find him. Shah Rukh Khan will be seen in a cameo as a magician, who helps Salman’s character discover his talents.
Salman Khan is juggling between the promotions of Tubelight and shooting of Ali Abbas Zafar’s upcoming film “Tiger Zinda Hai“. The film features Katrina Kaif as the leading lady. It is a sequel to Kabir Khan’s 2012 film “Ek Tha Tiger“.
The first half of the year is gone and in terms of business its going to be a record even if we don't include Bahubali 2 but that is mainly because there has been a good flow with more star cast films in the first half of 2017 then years gone by. Bahubali 2 is a a historic hit, the biggest we have seen since 1994, it has crushed the likes of Dangal, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, PK and 3 Idiots but eventually its not come from the Hindi film industry.
Its great that it has shown that blockbusters of the size of Gadar or Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and maybe even Hum Aapke Haim Kaun can still happen but on the other side it shows the sad state of Hindi films that the biggest grosser by a distance is a dubbed Telugu film. The biggest HIT from the Hindi film industry is Badrinath Ki Dulhania which is the only SUPER HIT film in the first five months of 2017. The two HIT films were Jolly LLB 2 and Hindi Medium. The classifications of films till date are as follows.
All Time Blockbuster 1. Bahubali - The Conclusion
Super Hit 2. Badrinath Ki Dulhania
Hit 3. Jolly LLB 2 4. Hindi Medium
Semi Hit 5. Raees
Average 6. Sachin - A Billion Dreams 7. The Ghazi Attack
The releases of this week are not included but its not as if Raabta and Behen Hogi Teri have any chance to feature in the list above. There were 98 releases till 2nd June including Bahubali and only 7 films out of these 92 managed to have success to varying degrees.
SCOOP: Salman Khan blocks Christmas 2019 for Kick 2?
By Bollywood Hungama News Network Jun 14, 2017 - 12:10 pm IST
He is gearing for his next collaboration with Kabir Khan, Tubelight, which is slated to release next week. This year, some of Salman Khan’s blockbuster films are all set to be revived like Tiger Zinda Hai (sequel to Ek Tha Tiger) and Kick 2. While the former has already gone on floor, there are many speculations about the second instalment of Kick.
Recent reports however assert that work on Kick 2 has indeed been kick started by Sajid Nadiadwala who made his debut as a director with the first instalment. Reportedly, the filmmaker has been quietly writing the script for the sequel which will take off from where the previous one had been left.
Let us remind you that in Kick, Salman Khan played the role of a robber, inspired by Robin Hood, who steals to help the needy, with Randeep Hooda essaying the cop who chases him. The film’s climax ended with Randeep reporting to his heads and is merrily surprised to see Devil aka Devi Lal walk beside as a cop.
While it is yet to be revealed if the rest of the cast including Randeep Hooda as well as Jacqueline Fernandez as Salman’s love interest will be retained for the sequel, we hear that an international action star will be seen against Salman in the film. Apparently, the film is high on action and the preparation will be quite extensive for the same.
With Sajid Nadiadwala busy with his other productions like Judwaa 2 and Baaghi 2, he will be donning the role of a director for Kick 2 from 2019. The film is slated to go on floor at the start of 2019 and it has been learnt that the makers are aiming at blocking Christmas 2019 for Kick 2.
