Clint Eastwood just keeps getting better and better. I am a huge Tom Hanks fan, both on and off screen actually, so this was like a double treat. And having followed this story live as it happened, that made it even better. Very well done movie and they got almost everything right in the end. It is just so sad, though, when someone does something so brave and has to put up with so much bull behind the scenes. Nice, crisp depiction and never drags. It had me wondering in the end as to how short this movie really was. Maybe I was too engrossed in it to realize, but it seemed more like a real short HBO special than a full blown movie.
My opinion - KKR has been the trend-setter when it comes to auctions, over the last 4 seasons. This was another solid round. I like how they strengthened their fast-bowling line-up. As good as Morne Morkel was up front, he was still a liability in the end overs. Coulter-Nile should give Gambhir a little bit of respite, especially since Narine is not good anymore at bowling at the death. Boult is another good pick. Very unsure of Woakes - as good as he is in the one-day game, T20s in India are a different beast. Darren Bravo was a bit of a steal, really. The one pick that I don't agree with is Rishi Dhawan. He is just another fill-up-the-numbers player like Satheesh was last season, and that just does not cut it. I really hope Chris Lynn is fit through the season. With so much cricket to be played at the Gardens, Shakib, Piyush, Sunil and Kuldeep seems good enough to cover the vital spin department. Was also a little disappointed they didn't go for M Ashwin, but you don't want to pick players and bench them through the season - I hate how regularly Mumbai does that.
I absolutely LOVE it. When the movie came out, I actually loved this song a lot more than Hum's original (?). Bappi Lahiri's voice was kinda well fitting as well. Oh good headphones, this sounds great!
^ ZNMD was a snooze-fest to me too, but just the first time I watched it. The film has grown on me over time. But, to call the two "poor" films is a bit much, especially when Bollywood consistently churns out a plethora of genuinely poor films every month.
Nice article. I disagree with a lot of it, but it is still well written. For me, Anand Rai 's film has the potential to be a big pan-India hit. But who knows how long post production will end up taking. He has definitely got to do one more film in between.
Been a Patriots fan ever since I started watching football. Used to live in New Hampshire when I first started following the sport, hence..... Repeat after me now "In Brady We Trust". I'm running on fumes at work today, celebrated till 3 in the morning! The Julian Edelman catch was HUGE because it eased a LOT of the pain from the Tyree helmet catch!
^ I reckon Shakib missing games was to basically give him a rest. He is a key player and you don't want him injured halfway into the competition. I agree Shakib, when not rested, should simply be one of the first names on the starting XI every game.
^ They have retained Narine. I don't think Narine will be banned again. His action is a lot cleaner and he is not causing too many problems for Indian batsmen anyway lol. I think he will definitely play. A bowler that can hold his composure all the time is very vital and Narine has been doing a lot of work on his bowling. Hope Uthappa and Gambhir get going again. A big start is really important this season with Dre Russ out.
1. Need someone to replace Andre Russell, since he has been banned. There is obviously no like-to-like replacement out there - Thisara Perera, Corey Anderson.... can't think of anyone else that has been let go that we could use in that position. 2. Morne Morkel - Need a like to like replacement, someone with pace. Chris Jordan can deliver yorkers well, Varun Aaron is a decent bet, Mitch Johnson maybe given how strong he looked in his comeback in the BBL, Dale Steyn. Plenty of options there. I'm surprised they let Morkel go, he has done decently well for us - as good as any seamer can. But he hasn't played international cricket in a while, injured I guess? That may explain it 3. Spinners - This is just my thing. Given that half the games are going to be played at the Eden Gardens, they need one more spinner in their lineup. Just keep tossing up between Kuldeep and the new pick for the third spinner's spot. M Ashwin has been let go, he would be an excellent pick, there is Imran Tahir, Praveen Tambe, Pawan Negi.... Again, plenty of options there as well. One more spinner is definitely needed here.
In other news, I am very very pleased they brought L Balaji back into the setup as the bowling coach. He worked very well with Gambhir and from all I have heard him speak, sounds like he has an excellent idea of bowling in T20's in Indian conditions.
For me, Raees has already done enough. While Fan found universal acclaim but not enough box-office cred, Raees seems to have done both. While not earth-shattering on both counts, it has placed itself as a solid movie on all levels. SRK needed a movie like this that has been liked overall by all. I am happy with its box-office performance. But I can't wait for his next movie already. The wait after this seems waaaaay too long. SRK is on a roll now, and I want to see a LOT more of him in this beast-mode.

Ram Jaane in particular was particularly ruffian, and SRK was brilliant. If I remember right, it had gone up against one of the F***ir's films and beat it to pulp
Akele Hum Akele Tum I think? Man, I still cannot forget that movie. I remember thinking "Wait, there is accusations of someone stealing someone's songs while most of the soundtrack of this movie is completely plagiarized?" and "Which courtroom in India discusses divorce suits with witness sitting in chairs with microphones in front of them?" LOL. If the internet were around then, we all would have had a field day with that film.
The break from SRK surely helped both SRK and Karan. So, even if this is true, I don't think either of them are anymore in that space where Shahrukh simply says yes just because it is Karan. The mood he is in right now, if he thinks it is a good film to do, I don't mind at all. I'm all for staying away from Farah and Rohit, but always in favor of saying yes to Adi (will let Befikre slide) and Karan (depending-on-my-mood at the moment :P)
The only SRK film in the Delhi top 10 is Chennai Express and it's collections aren't even in the league of the top 5. In the top 30, there are only 3 films, with Ra.One at # 32.
It also shows how huge Ra.One was when it launched. Since then only three SRK films in the top 30. Sad.
It isn't even that Delhi doesn't like masala. Their top films include the highly intellectual Dhoom 3, Kick and Ek Tha Tiger. The top 20 brings in Happy New Year, Bang Bang, Bodyguard, Dabangg 2 and the like. I feel it is the pseudo intellectuals that Delhiites consider themselves that is preventing them from watching SRK's films as it would make them odd men in the crowd
I've lived in a lot of different places in India, but consider myself a Delhiite. It is, by far, THE most pretentious of all places I have lived in - large parts of Delhi anyway. Nothing to eat inside the house, but make sure there is a BMW parked outside is how I usually describe Delhi. So yeah, I couldn't agree with you more. Lol.
So, what do you want to say, gangsta, that it is fair to get the movie to watch without paying for it???
Not saying it is fair or right. Just that several people on this forum have mentioned before how grateful they have been for such prints in the past and I have had moments where I have felt like I was taking away their SRK-moment, if you will. While you threw in your view (more valid than mine perhaps), I just wanted to present the other side and the fact that there IS another side.
mirzay I differ on that one actually. I wouldn't report them at all. Right here this forum has taught me that. So many SRK fans from all over the globe, some in places where they will never get to see it before it is out on DVD, are usually quite thankful for these. So.... my 2 cents anyway.
The man that keeps posting inflated numbers for his films should be the last person in the world to talk about ethics. He lives i his own little bubble, doesn't he? At last count, I read 2600 screens for Raees vs 2300 for Kaabil. That doesn't sound like a big difference to me, especially given that most of the difference is in single screens where Raees is definitely the better movie to screen. Just take a lesson from SRK man. No matter how it eventually turns out - in his favor with OSO or against him with Dilwale - SRK is always magnanimous and never gets into these silly things. And for someone that started off by saying he would watch Kaabil twice but won't see Raees - anything but gracious - it undermines your credibility even more. I honestly believe Kaabil would have done much worse if it weren't for the hype of this clash simply because Hrithik is no star anymore, and trailer was pretty boring.
