^ Oh right. There was a "match" card or something they were given so they could match the highest bid of one of their players..... Interesting. RCB's identity right now is all about their top order of ABD, Kohli and Gayle. That could change dramatically next season. I really hope KKR get Andre Russell back. We missed him badly this season.
^ Oh they do. The commentators never mentioned it on air. But cricinfo kept talking about Pune being out, almost every day.
I really hope they keep the teams to 8. It already runs way too long. The Aussie Big Bash has this concept completely nailed. IMO, it is the best T20 league out there. It will never get close the popularity of the IPL, but they have the concept done beautifully. That is exactly how long a tournament like this should be - long enough to put up some good cricket and short enough to leave viewers wanting more. Almost every year with the IPL, I start off watching all game and by the time the playoffs come, I am down to watching only KKR and sometimes not even them. Its just way too long.
I think KKR should retain their main core - Pandey, Gambhir, Narine, Lynn, Piyush, Kuldeep and Umesh. And given how well KKR perform at auctions, they will get their set of players. They absolutely need to retain their spin-trio. There will be plenty of cricket played at the Eden Gardens between now and the next IPL. So the pitch should start to take some turn next year, unlike this one. And they will need their spinners, all of whom are very good.
Edit: dnkdreamz All players in the pool? That is just crazy. They can't even retain 4? Every few years, just when teams start to take shape and start to assume a "look", they completely end up changing it up. I'm not a fan.

^ LOL. Purely on box office performance, maybe. But Anurag doesn't make "bad" movies. All of his movies are watchable. May not be to everyone's taste, but at least you can't call them bad movies. RGV, on the other hand, has just been making one piece of trash after another. And for several years now.
They tried to do all they could to lose this one too. But Gambhir displayed enough calmness to take them through to a deserved second knockout. IT was the brilliant bowling performance up front that set it up. Someone throw Yusuf Pathan out of the side. He has been riding on just his name alone for waaaaaaaaay too long now. As brainless as Trump.
As good as Shahrukh Khan was in FAN, this performance from Sushant Singh Rajput is almost up there with it. I am such a fan now. Not sure what Ranbir can do with playing Sanjay Dutt, but I doubt anyone can better this. This is almost a flawless performance from Sushant. If it weren't for Aryan Khanna, I would have said give this guy every award in town, and more. Blown away.
^ Yesterday was the perfect opportunity to send Yusuf at one down. He hasn't had much of a hit this IPL because the top order has done so well. So give him a run there, especially when the spinners were on. He could smashed Tewatia for 15 runs in an over and it would have been a completely different game from there. I don't think he has had any decent time in the middle, so I wouldn't be too harsh on him. With the exception, of course, of his fielding. His fielding and catching is possibly even worse than Narine's! And that is saying something. But Narine has more than adequately made up for all of that with both bat and ball. Yusuf has got to get better at least at catching if not ground fielding. Pandey has been the biggest disappointment over the last few games for me. So Woakes is going back home now. Boult back in the lineup. I really hope they give deGrandhomme a rest for the next game and play Shakib instead. On paper, KKR look to be the best team of the competition and no matter where they end up in the top 4, if they do make it, they will remain the team to beat there. But, overall, terrible performance against Punjab. Absolutely terrible.
Uh oh. Spoke too soon. They follow it up with their worst performance of the season. After the start given to them, some appalling batting from Pandey, Gambhir and Uthappa. Absolutely terrible batting. Shoddy performance. We are up against Mumbai next, who have the wood on us. Just went from coasting to the top 2 to struggling to get into the playoffs now. Worst display of the season for me, especially given the opposition.
This was actually very good. Perhaps my expectations were low. But Hrithik just blew me away. In the first half, there were a LOT of Aamir hangover in his performance, but he is brilliant in the movie. I am not a big Hrithik fan, mostly because he comes across as very rehearsed in most films, but he was very very good here.
Pathetic performance from RCB batsmen. This is what happens when you go completely top-heavy and rely solely on Gayle, Kohli and ABD. Nevertheless, inspired performance from KKR bowlers. Shows once again how smartly KKR handled the auction. They knew the track at Eden was going to be relaid and would probably help the pacemen and the picks of Coulter-Nile, Woakes and Boult especially seem like masterstrokes in hindsight. Best win of the season yet. From this point, I'd expect KKR to finish atop the points table by the time the playoffs come around.
^ Oh that is great news! Surprising, but great. He has been in seriously good hitting form this year and I was hoping we would take full advantage. And opening the batting with him seemed like a great move. Hope he doesn't sit out more than 2 more games.
This is mainly because of the loss of wicket taking ability of Sunil Narine who used to be the biggest threat for any opposition by picking a lot of wickets. It was like opposition had only 16 overs against KKR to score. That allowed a cushion for rest of the bowlers and the team.
The Narine threat seems to be coming back! Took a while but it is surely there. Terrific performances from him in the last couple of games.
KKR tops the table. And with CSK out of the picture, KKR have cemented themselves as THE consistently good team in the IPL. Excellent win this. And I absolutely love the opening combinations they have going now. Lynn, then Narine, now de Grandhomme. It didn't come off today but was an excellent move. Gotta give him another shot, then come back with Narine, then switch it up again with maybe someone like Yusuf. Just keep teams guessing.
^ Feel you're being too harsh on the bowlers. These guys couldn't catch a cold in flu season. If we had held on to all our catches, like we should have, we would be unbeaten so far and the bowling would have looked pretty good.
Narine came off today but he is going to get a lot of short stuff on his body from now on. It has happened to Raina too and he has come back from that. But Narine is a bowler that doesn't spend as much time working on his batting. He will need to now. The faster pace from the likes of Malinga and others could trouble him.
Overall terrific match. KKR completely outplayed KingsXI in every department save catching.
Finally watched it. Incredibly good. One general thing I liked about the movie was how Nawaz's character is drawn out to be the consistently good one. Even if at some point, you are rooting for Raees to win, it is still not at the expense of Majmudar. I really liked that about the movie. In essence, it is not an anti-hero as in Baazigar, it is a character that starts out with negative shades and stays the same through out. I am so glad now that they replaced Farhan with Nawaz, who is quite brilliant in the movie.
I hope Lynn's injury is not that serious else it will be a bigger loss for them than the match against MI.
Third injury to the same shoulder. My guess is his IPL is over. Such a shame, though. He could have lit up the tournament having obviously been given the license to go free his arms. With Russell also missing, KKR is missing some hitting power. Need someone like de Grandhomme to come good now. I would play him over Boult in the next game and also bring in Shakib in place of Lynn. Such a shame.
What an innings from Chris Lynn today. Just clean striking to every part of the ground. Lynn takes on the seamers and Gambhir taking on the spinners. Excellent move to open with Lynn. Reminds me of Lynn's brilliant hundred from the big bash earlier this year. If he remains fit throughout the IPL, watch out rest of the teams!
Clint Eastwood just keeps getting better and better. I am a huge Tom Hanks fan, both on and off screen actually, so this was like a double treat. And having followed this story live as it happened, that made it even better. Very well done movie and they got almost everything right in the end. It is just so sad, though, when someone does something so brave and has to put up with so much bull behind the scenes. Nice, crisp depiction and never drags. It had me wondering in the end as to how short this movie really was. Maybe I was too engrossed in it to realize, but it seemed more like a real short HBO special than a full blown movie.
My opinion - KKR has been the trend-setter when it comes to auctions, over the last 4 seasons. This was another solid round. I like how they strengthened their fast-bowling line-up. As good as Morne Morkel was up front, he was still a liability in the end overs. Coulter-Nile should give Gambhir a little bit of respite, especially since Narine is not good anymore at bowling at the death. Boult is another good pick. Very unsure of Woakes - as good as he is in the one-day game, T20s in India are a different beast. Darren Bravo was a bit of a steal, really. The one pick that I don't agree with is Rishi Dhawan. He is just another fill-up-the-numbers player like Satheesh was last season, and that just does not cut it. I really hope Chris Lynn is fit through the season. With so much cricket to be played at the Gardens, Shakib, Piyush, Sunil and Kuldeep seems good enough to cover the vital spin department. Was also a little disappointed they didn't go for M Ashwin, but you don't want to pick players and bench them through the season - I hate how regularly Mumbai does that.
